Grief is a deeply personal and often complex response to loss, encompassing a range of emotions such as sadness, anger, confusion, and even moments of peace.
It is not a linear process but a journey that unfolds uniquely for each individual, shaped by their relationship to what was lost and their personal coping mechanisms.
Understanding grief means recognising that it is a natural and necessary part of healing, allowing space for emotions to surface without judgment.
It’s important to offer compassion to oneself and others during this time, acknowledging that healing doesn’t mean forgetting but finding a way to live meaningfully alongside the loss. -
Managing grief involves acknowledging and allowing yourself to feel the emotions that come with loss, rather than suppressing them.
It helps to create a supportive routine, such as engaging in activities that bring comfort or meaning, seeking support from loved ones, or talking to a counselor if needed.
Expressing your feelings through writing, art, or conversation can also provide relief and insight.
Be patient with yourself, as grief has no timeline, and focus on small steps toward healing, like finding moments of peace and honoring your connection to what was lost.
Remember, managing grief is not about “getting over it” but learning to live with it in a way that nurtures your well-being. -
Supporting someone who is grieving requires compassion, patience, and a willingness to simply be present.
Listen without judgment or the need to offer solutions, allowing them to express their feelings in their own time and way.
Avoid clichés or minimizing their pain; instead, acknowledge their loss and let them know you’re there for them.
Offer practical help, such as cooking meals, running errands, or accompanying them to appointments, as grief can make daily tasks overwhelming.
Most importantly, let them set the pace for their healing and remind them they don’t have to face it alone.
